A sketch I did during our lunch break today. I want to draw more girls with unique bodies.

Figure Drawings - Contrasting Hands

I like drawing with my left hand. It forces me to focus on what I'm drawing instead of jumping to a comfortable spot and expecting an insta-drawing when I put pen to paper. Here are two five minute drawings done with my left hand and two five minute drawings done with my right hand in a twenty minute set. I'll post the other right handed drawings in a bit.

Valentine's Day with Raquel Reed!

I went to Dr. Sketchy's yesterday with my friend Chandra and we had a kickass time drawing Raquel Reed. Here's my drawing from the non-dominant hand challenge.

Character Designs!

These Friday posts are going to become quite difficult if I keep insisting on Friday outings. (Last week, midnight 'Rear Window'. This week, cake and sweets with Polly, bestest friend ever. Next week, midnight 'Jurassic Park'. It's this or cat lady, people!

Character designs today. We were given literary descriptions of characters from various books and instructed to design! I chose Catherine Sloper from 'Washington Square' and Aunt Amy from 'Old Mortality'. (Misspelling her name and mixing her outfit with three different decades of fashion was totally not done on purpose. Will fix it!)

The weekend will be dedicated to work and a possible announcement. I had my heart set on going to the Vampire's Ball tomorrow, but there's way too much work to be done (I know, I know. Poor Cinderelly.) Now, if you're in the Los Angeles area tomorrow, the Girls Drawin Girls show is going on and you can see my Salome piece in person (and for purchasing)! Please take pictures for me if you go. :) I wish I could be there.

All my love to everyone in Egypt! I heard the news when I was in class and I couldn't believe it. (Forgive a cynic. Our motto is "you're either always right or pleasantly surprised.") I wish you all the best! :)

Figure Drawings Again!

On Monday's class, I started with my hand in my brace to keep my thumb from moving around, but I grew frustrated from the odd drawings and I couldn't draw our model's face, so off came brace for our second model. I included the odd drawings with the better ones anyway. :)

Salome - Pin-Up Art

Amici, for the past few weeks, I've been using my free time to work on this piece for the first Girls Drawin' Girls show of 2011. The theme is 'hoity-toity'; making low brow art out of high brow styles. I made a movie poster for Richard Strauss's 'Salome' in the style of Josef Fenneker's expressionist movie posters as a nod to film snobs and opera dorks (ex. me). The game plan was to make a 'Der Rosenkavalier' poster to accompany it, but maybe I can put that together for the MoCCA Festival. :)

This piece will be exhibited in the Pehrspace at 325 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026 and it is for sale. The show goes from 9pm-1am on February 12th, and I can't be there since I'm way out here in New York, but if you're in the area, please go have fun! There will be food, booze, live music, and a burlesque show! :)

Painting Animatic

There was no Friday post because I got home at Arse o'clock from seeing Rear Window at midnight with my friends. Here is Friday's homework though! We were given a folder of paintings and instructed to assemble a two minute animatic. I had 'Maurice' and 'Brief Encounter' on the mind and Man o'Manatee, do I love me some subtext. Music by Wynton "Boss" Marsalis.

Figure Drawings - Week 4

Scout's honor, I will be better about recording the times of these. They range from 3 minutes to 10 minutes. I included some ugly ones that weren't accurate, but looked pretty dang cool.
