I've Been in Bat Country

I've been disgustingly absent from my blog because:
a) I've been helping Liz Artinian with getting the word out for Too Art for TV 5. It is a fabulous gallery show featuring the best of New York's animation artists and it is opening on March 25th this Friday! I'll be working reception so swing by to say hi and pick up a few pieces.
b) I've been prepping for the MoCCA Festival, which is going on the second weekend of April at the 68th Regiment Armory in New York.
c) I've been working on a super secret project with my awesome friend Polly.
4) I was in Austin, TX for SXSW. I saw seven amazing movies (much love to the teams for Attack the Block, The Other F Word, and The Divide), saw old friends and made new ones, saw a fantastic burlesque show, ate my weight in the best of Texas food, and doodled the above bats for a tattoo that didn't happen. (As God as my witness, it WILL happen...when I have cash funds.)

There's a bigger update a-coming, but one of my figure drawing sketchbooks has wandered off and I need to adjust the size and contrast of the drawings I will be posting. Just wanted to let y'all know I hadn't disappeared completely and there will be more work coming. :) Until then, here's the video I recorded of the Four Loko drinking contest that went on before the infamous second screening of 'The FP' (which is also fantastic). Enjoy!

International Women's Day

This is my great great gran on my dad's side: Flora Haines Loughead. She graduated from college when she was 17, wrote for the San Francisco Chronicle during the earthquake, fought for civil rights, published several novels, owned passion fruit farms and opal mines, was the mother of the Lockheed brothers, and got divorced three times. She was ferocious even by today's standards and I take immense pride in sharing her DNA.

There's some excellent information here and you can read some of her books on Google Books. She inspires me in my work and life every day and I hope every woman is inspired to be a badass!

Go forth and be awesome, sisters!

Sneak Peek!

Until I have some finished stuff to show, I want to share a work in progress. I'm not sure if this is the direction I'm going in for the final, but I wanted to figure out some ideas. :) Not saying what it's for yet, but take a guess if you'd like!

Dr. Sketchy's and Transmetropolitan

This past Sunday, Chandra and I hit up Dr. Sketchy's to draw Jiz Lee as Spider Jerusalem and Ryan Keely as Channon Yarrow for an evening of Transmetropolitan shenanigans. Chan won the booze challenge and I won the leftie challenge. :) Here are three of my drawings from the show. The first won the challenge, I just wish I could have finished it. I've got some great figure drawings from class, but I took lousy photos so those are going to be up late. Enjoy!
